Lying at the foot of Monte Castro, a Galician settlement from the Iron Age, is the historic centre, the heart of the most populated city in Galicia, with more than 300,000 inhabitants. This wasn’t always the case; in fact, historically, it was just a mere seafaring village, with its fishing port in O Berbés, although large enough to be fortified with solid walls. It was after the 19th century and 20th century when it outshone the rest thanks to its fishing port (one of the largest in Europe), trade and burgeoning industrial power.
From here you can make out landmarks of the skyline, such as the white tower of the current courthouse, town hall or Monte Guía.
