Much more open to the sea that its counterpart in Vigo, the Ria de Pontevedra is also sheltered from the Atlantic by islands – the Ons Archipelago. In fact, many years ago there was another large island, today a peninsula, O Grove, connected by a long spit of sand: A Lanzada Beach. Other sandy areas that can be seen here are the beaches of Sanxenxo, which stretch from Punta Faxilda, Montalvo, as far as Punta de Elmo.
